I have light in my house from 6:00 to 10:00 PM. It didn't come last night and a single look at my surroundings gave me this poem.
I and my beloved daughter Maria
Take tea together every morning
She is only three but very cute
When we finish we start singing
DUGSI AA DUGSI AA goes the beat
Dugsi is a nearby quranic school
Maria is fond to learn the koran
Not to blow up herself in future
But to give love inspire and care
I watch her with great admiration
As she goes down the red sand hills
I don't leave the place until I see
Maria swallowed in dark Dugsi door
Six in the evening is my return time
At the door of my house I meet Maria
Daddyyyy! She roars like a thunder
Normally a song follows this event
But today there was nothing to celebrate
The company generator was not started
So there was no light in the house
Our song "NALKA AA NALKA was not played
Darkness fell soon upon us like an axe
The sky was well lit and well decorated
But didn't shine enough to give us light
We all coverged on a spot near the kitchen
children grabbed their African stools
As their mother lit our kerosine lamp
We all sat around it and played jokes
I asked Maria "where can you find Daddy within yourself?"
And she touched her stomach, saying "Here"
"C'mon Maria" said her soft-spoken Mom
Have you eaten Daddy?
Our laughter cracked the walls of bordeom
This is a precious write, Adbi-Noor. Another example of your plight and your insights on love and survival. I applaude your courage!

I like this. Despite the hardships you seem to see the light. Also another example that the Koran does not teach violence. Although I have light whenever I want it...I envy your optimism. Also would like to say that children are a joy. Thanks.

Let this coming of age story of a boy named Bean take you back to a simple time. Set in a small southern town in the 1960's, encircled by a river and gleaming white cotton fields.
