If we show no mercy to animals what do we expect God to have in store for us?
Hell. Isn't it?
Not long ago in Mogadishu streets
A cat came under a heavy threat
A hungry dog gave her a chase
Though it saw no escape route
The little cat ran like a horse
But the faster it scampered
The shorter distance it covered
The dog was nearly on its neck
When it jumped onto a nearby tree
From afar I was watching with awe
With a sigh of relief I thanked God
Then moved to reach out the black cat
Her terrified eyes nearly broke my heart
I brought it to my house and named it Kowle
But my relatives insisted to throw it away
They said it will bring bad omen to the house
A black cat should not enter a house at night
Between me and Kowle culture stepped in
I confronted with elder relatives aggressively
And won the battle to keep Kowle at home
But in the morning when I woke up from sleep
Kowle was no more seen in the house
Someone from within us threw it away
Kowle was sent back to live in terror
War had hardened some hearts like rocks
Every good effort finds a stab at the back
Its blood drains in pits of treachery
My heart is weeping
I feel you in this piece Brother Abdi-Noor. How very vry sad that man would transfer their own fears to a harmless creature. Superstition is a cloak used I think to hide those fears we refuse to face, challenge, and discard. Walking under a ladder can be dangerous, but why must any black man or creature be reason for fear and distrust? I too join your sadness. Peace, love, and blessings. <Mikii>
And I weep with you Abdi-Noor about ignorance which breeds misunderstanding and hatred. A most compassionate write, my friend. Thank you for sharing it. Love and peace to you,
This is abuse of animals. If we abuse animals we will abuse piople, kids, elderly and the helpless. Teach children when they are young to love and they will not depart from it. This is bearing on Santnic rituals, sacfrice if you will, and babies are also sacrificed in this way. The begining of the evil we see in this world. To abort is sinful and wrong also the use of contrseptives; only natural planning is accepted in our faith. And it does work. lf
Yes, sadly, this happens so often and why only animals? Do we not desert our own kind too? How often we justify our actions to our own conscience...
I think cruelty and war and terror are as much a part of this world as love , compassion and caring. If only the good could reign over the bad.
great write. :-) shoma

I have absolutely nothing against the care and the love we give to animals, but this week one of my best friend was deserted by his wife because she prefers to take care of cats than to take care of him. There should be priorities in this world. But your poem is of course an eye opener to those who are cruel to animals.
The sad part is that someone within your immediate realm is not to be trusted and that the gentleness of your heart has been crushed like a cockroach in the pantry. Superstitions can take a powerful hold on some and the fear that those superstitions generate can lead a person to take action that would normally be out of their character. I hope that someone else takes Kowle in and offers him/her a home, but your immediate concern must be to learn exactly who it is that lives with you, that is not worthy of your trust. Heartbreaking poem, Abdi-Noor, I can feel the pain in your heart. I, for one, adore black cats. Every one that I have had has seemed to have intense wisdom and a beautiful spirit and to filled with love and devotion.
Take care,
Sherry
I can feel your pain and frustration, Abdi-Noor. Superstititions and Stereotypes have been a bane to many people, and many animals, since the beginning of time.
In the United States, the least adopted animals at our overflowing animal shelters, because of ages old superstitions, are black dogs and black cats - who many foolishly still associate with Black Magic and Evil Witches.
I brought two black dog Hurricane Katrina victims home because no one wanted them, and I have a black cat at home that no one wanted - and all three are truly wonderful pets.
New Poetry by Abdi-Noor Haji Mohamed (Eagle Of Hope)
I’ve encountered many non-human creatures on my life’s journey.
I have found each and every one of these animals to be a unique and wondrous being.
Animals have truly brought fullness to my life. Some of them have also brought de
