From 1960 till we went war with ourselves IN 1991, Somaliweyn has been our national vision which demanded the unconditional union of five Somali regions in the Horn formerly divided by the colonialists. Two portions have forged a union in 1960 and instead of bringing the other three into the fold, they parted ways. One has become a breakaway republic of Somali-Land, a former British protectorate while the other still retains the former name of Somalia. Former President of Kenya, Daniel Arap Moi has let the cat out of the bag when several years back he disclosed the secrets of Somalia´s disintegration. He was making a speech at a Military acadamy in washington DC when he told audience that the Horn of Africa region does not appreciate Somaliweyn,(a united Somalia)largely because of the threat such a unity can impose in the entire nations of the Horn. I wrote this for a Somali website but I think it could also be shared with the Den poets.

In war a nation had fallen apart
Its children had lost hope over
They are drowning in a sea of misery
They see no light at the end of the tunnel

Its seas have been poisoned with wastes
Its air space is violated with impunity
Its land is occupied by invading forces
Its forests have been conquered by evil

Its resources have been shipped off
It is accused of sheltering terrorists
The very core of its existence is damaged
Tears of pain are drying in her eyes

But with blocks of peace and love
We should rebuild Somalia afresh
We should put back its shattered soul
But behind these lines a question is hiding

Has Somaliweyn been a dream of hope
Or was it just an illusion of disaster
After all what is our new vision?
Or we don´t have any
