My identity
my memory
My past
A bond they are
unbreakable
By Time
Inseparable
By migration
I hold them
Always
Every minute
Every second
In my heart
In every breath
Can´t be part of a present
That has no trace of my past
As this goes against my wish
Of inheriting a future of my own
No future without a past.
Genetically, you and your offspring will always be associated with Somalia. And, as long as you live you will always be faced with the duality of leaving your home and culture for a new one. However, children born in the new land have no such connection and readily assume the language and culture around them as they rapidly grow up. Within two generations, except for old writings, pictures, and now, videos of those times in those places, the older culture will be replaced by the new.
Most Americans identify themselves with this country they immigrated to rather than the countries of their ancestors. In this melting pot, we all call ourselves Americans.
