Waris, a Somali girl living in Kenya on refugee status, decides to return to war-torn Somalia to trace her missing boyfriend back home. Upon leaving she tells her heart to look for its other heart and to maintain courage and patience during the search.
OH MY HEART OH VICTIM OF WAR TREMENDOUSLY WRONGED ARE THOSE LIKE YOU IN CONFLICT SITUATIONS DIRTY WARS ACROSS THE MOTHERLAND SENT LOVE HEARTS FAR APART OH MY HEART OH VICTIM OF WAR TRAGEDY BEFELL IN SOMALIA MANY TOOK UP THE PEN FEW TALKED ABOUT YOU SOME REPORTED DAILY TOLL ONLY OTHERS NARRATED EVIL STORIES THE DEAD AND THE INJURED THE LOOTED AND THE DESTROYED THE DEFEATED AND THE VICTORIOUS ALL MADE UP THE DAY’S NEWS THE PLIGHT OF DIVIDED HEARTS SEEN UNFIT IN THE INTERNATIONAL WIRES OH MY HEART OH VICTIM OF WAR YOUR TWIN HEART IS MISSING GO SEARCH FOR HIM DESPITE CHAOS AND STRIFE GO SEARCH FOR HIM AMID ROCKET FIRE GO STRONG. I think I read this earlier today, and commented on it. It is a rare and much needed glimpse into the reality of war, and the real costs to the individual. Well done.
