Poem Artwork

Like the teenager whose first job

is working at the donut shop,

stuffing his face on grease balls

dipped in sugar…colored everything from

nearly invisible…to chocolate covered sprinkles;

I have developed a serious aversion

to the taste of pride, for I,

cannot swallow another bit of mine.

Who says you have to swallow your pride? Wear it like an armour that can protect you from the cruel things that might break you otherwise.
