A friend of mine keeps saying to me: "What is more important, honesty or responsibility?"
My reply
What is responsibility without honesty?
A hue that is put down on the page in various shades of gray.
Darkness here, light there, shadow everywhere.
Tone building on the other until the image comes into full view.
A mask of integrity, drowning out illusion.
And in the end what you are left with is black and white.
It either is or it isn't, you decide.
But without honesty, responsibility only has one side.

We can accept responsibility for lying. We do it all the time. And we can be honest about being irresponsible. :) Good one.

Trust me. Two words that when said to me make me lock my car, set the alarm on my house and business, make sure the bank understands that only I am allowed to cash checks, and hold my wallet tightly in my hand, as I run the hell away from that person as quickly as my old legs can carry me. Trust me. I do up until those two words are said.

Honesty is. Honesty towards others and yourself. But how can you figure out if someone is honest or just playing a game? Difficult question. Great poem though. S.

it never ceases to amaze me that anyone could separate the two forms of thought in (as eileen says) morality.
both are very much, moral characteristics.
but between the black and white, are shades of grey. while honesty may dictate a response toward the cruel side, responsibility reminds us of our humanity. (hopefully)
I would never want to say
so n so (metaphoric/ example)is an ugly cow.
though technically, so n so, may not be what i would consider a comely individual, it would be irresponsible of me to express a viewpoint such as this, and inadvertantly hurt so n so's feelings.
to be honest..one has to accept the responsibility for their action....to be responsible, one must be honest with themselves.
i don't see where one can survive in harmony, without the other.

Beware of people who always use that word 'honesty' in describing themselves and their motives. It is usually a pre-requisite for "I am going to dump on you." All in the name of "honesty". It is bull-caca. Honesty and responsibility shows in everything you do if you truly have it; you don't have to say it or prove it or keep reminding people it is part of your overall moral makeup...it is.
