For those days where things don't go right or you feel down.
I hate being who I am.
But can change come to a person's self -
Or only her behavior?
Perhaps if I thought before I spoke:
Or dressed a little better.
Or was a little thinner.
Perhaps if I had money.
Or if I were beautiful.
Or was more outgoing.
Maybe a little taller.
Always free from this illness.
Nevermore a mood swing.
Or if I wasn't just a writer.
Perhaps if my dreams were a little clearer.
Or so my complexion.
If only I was not so emotional -
Or free to ramble on.
Perhaps then I could love myself.
But until then I am only me.

We definitely have to start with ourselves but never sell yourself short. We always have strengths which we don't see. Not to repeat Sandra but there are always others worst off than we are.
I like what Sandra said, I think we all feel this way at one time or another, but I liked how you wrote this and captured that feeling so very well in this well written poem.
I'm sorry you feel this way about your self, my dear, but you should know your Creator never made any mistakes on you, Maria. Everything is where its supposed to be. Illness - most us us have one illness, disability or another, but we should count the blessings that come our way and be thankful. The next person with the same disability maybe doesn't have the funds to even buy some bread; another doesn't have the love and support from family; the next doesn't have your kind of talent to keep her busy, smile and release some tension.
Being emotional is beautiful - it means you feel! Being a writer is beautiful - we learn a lot through you. You have so much to love and be thankful for! If you thought before you spoke you'd be careful and hold back what you are feeling. Silly but true.
