The earth is alive. Indians acknowledge this and treat her well for without Earth there is no life.

Life sauntered by—empty chalice in hand—
parched to the care, she was thirsty for drink.
“I’ve none to spare.”
“You are wasting my time.”
Each gave excuses that hopped in their minds.
Those with meager water cared and they shared.
It mattered not that she wasn’t their kind.
Droplets are precious e’en when waters high—
we lack all control over the weather!
All predictions are guesses, you know
air pressures change and so do their flows.
All living things need water to thrive.
Huge rivers, mismanaged, churn into slow.
Life sauntered by—withered and dying—
too many people rape the earth, ground;
few folks suffer so her gushes can thrive.
To keep things balanced, help her to survive.
Riches and profits will not quench our thirst
we seek to guzzle until all things burst.
Thirsty, still spared her, some were righteous;
others, oozing with greed, were riotous.
Have you noticed that it has come to pass that a gallon of water sells for more than a gallon of gasoline? Scary theme. Excellent write.

The drug called "The Shari" has been used for vision quests over many years. But, when all the rivers start drying up, the tribe must send a young hunter named Tomás on a much more important trip through the Amazon.
