Have you ever felt that someone died in your place? Mom said Daddy died in my place; I was only five. Momma wouldn't lie to me, would she?
Daddy forgive me! You know I was ill
I truly loved you and I love you still
sick with German measles and bronchitis
you cradled me; called the Lord beside us
I heard you cry and pray
“She is but five,” you say
“please don’t take her away”
you gave me candy that I’d spit out
when you came near me, I’d shake, quiver, pout
delirious! Daddy, I hurt you so
somehow I healed but then you had to ‘go’
well enough now to play
Instead I cried and prayed
begging, “Let Daddy stay . . .”
Daddy, what kind of bargain did you make?
It was my time to go . . . for heaven’s sake!
my tears ever cascade
your devotion shalln’t fade
nor the sacrifice made
it wasn’t my fault . . . sissy got sick first
but when I took ill everything was worse
let me hold you Daddy! call the Lord down
I’m going to heaven where true love is found
Daddy can you hear me . . .
hover ever near me
love spans eternity!
such painful thoughts must be expressed, and there is no more able mode than through poetry...your writing is a direct conduit to your soul, sandy, and releases all that must be passed to move on...wonderful, soulful write.

Sandy,
You remind me of someone I know. You ripped my heart out. I don't know how to review this. It's so raw and just IN YOUR FACE....Woman, you just have no idea what this does to a reader.
this is a psychological rationalization brought on family members who do not know how to cope with death of a loved one ... my mother died from childbirth... at times, my father tried to make me feel it was my fault by indirect innuendo ... was it my "fault"? ... did she die in my place? a very interesting philosophical and quasi-religious question ... or is it simply the will of karma and the scheme of things in the journey through our lives...
Touched by tragedy has ennobled you into this great and wonderful poem. It is the wonder of wonders and the blessing of all blessings when someone grows from tragedy, trials and betrayal, love and compassion and creativity instead of the more common reaction of bitterness and aggression. I have had my share of tragedy and want to thank and bless you for blessing us with such sublimation.

In "A Touch of Your Presence" are words that would inspire, encourage and strengthen one's soul when faced with challenges and difficulties and to know the awesomeness of God's power.
