The day winds down
into evening
as the distant mountains
pierce
and swallow
the bottom of the sun,
bleeding life
across the western sky,
smearing it
along the horizon
like a broken yolk.
And I,
alone,
save for my regrets,
witness winters end.
And I
am made to know,
as I have always known,
that all life descends,
to be pierced
and to be bled.
To be reborn
again...
