Can you feel the heat of the high summer sun?

Can you feel it burn your back as you run?

She told you not to do it

She told you not to go.

With the Rossi still in your pocket

They’ll never leave you alone.

The sheriff will come for you on the darkest night

He’ll be there when you turn your back

Will you tell her what you did?

Will you tell her what she already knows?

With jealousy deep inside you

Her ghost will follow wherever you go.

The gun in your pocket brings death from within

No matter where you go, you’ll die in your sin.

You know she won’t love you

With your already broken heart

The rope is hanging for you

From the oak tree in her yard.

Tomorrow will come and with it hard rain

But all the water in heaven won’t wash away the pain.
