kid inside kicking hell out of him

it was one of those days.

trees of ice
windows wobble in the wind
wide awake hands unclench
fail to wipe away the fever, he wraps
an arm around a body thought to be his own
tightens hollow eyes against night rhythms
that never cease
seeking asylum in a boarded up mind

of vacant rooms where the emptiness cries out
in silent rage at squandered years
a sisyphean existence of tortured attempts
to unlock callow dreams
promises unseized, muses unattended
edens lost
nightingales unheard

hamlets untried
imagined tears follow weathered folds
to gaping mouth where ancestral brine burns deep
to still the soul of distant springs
winter’s torpor erasing absurd wonderings of what
became of yesterday
how he got from there to here

where in hell the here is
how it was
millennial bells toll at midnight
back in the unformed days
bong bong
when he was alive
bong

A little dark for you Gene...well maybe a lot dark...but you did capture the realization of mortality, that day we don't feel young anymore...Great read always Gerard

----this is internally ticking and, personally, for me, a little scary [a full knowing that so.ME.thing is not right] yet being unable in all that mindscape to get the 'fix' of it. .. .how the soul plays mindgames [oxymoronic]; how lost we get inside of very self; the pursuit of BEing can grate on a soul's heART, can warp a soul's st/\rings...i rea dthis like an excursion through a self.imposed asylum.... and your use of s.lick sounds and alliterative kapow! is beautifully [detri]mental. .. .its like the workings of a softly mad clock. ..and even though its a wee crooked with its pointy fingers. .. i love the shackling brilliance. so many self.isms to read into....:].. ..and this does not disappoint, in its lamenting and underlying mental ed.wardianism; it only needs a deathwish to close this final curtain. .. .

WOW! I could feel the introspective internalization of some deep searching. There is an inner fight here that is extremely painful. Great write.

Like a raging storm and what better way to paint a picture in words of such a moment of looking back maybe in regret at not having taken the other path when a choice presented itself. Brought to mind Frost's poem about two paths diverging in a wood. I read where he once said he never meant it that way. But we can interpret anyway we like. Once an author publishes, the work belongs to the world and how each indivudal looks at what someone else wrote serves a purpose. As a matter of fact, published writing serves more than one man's purpose. The author got something out of it by writing it and the reader go something else out of it by reading it.

Gene,
The Missed Opportunity, or chances that never are followed by another chance is how I feel reading this emotional write of retrospect...

You can feel the pain wondering what he's done with his life. Artfully written.
