My attempt at writing a legend......I read it to my daughter and she cried! Oh I am a bad Mom!

THE SPIRIT TURNS TO STONE

Two babes born near gentle seas
Playing in the sands
Always known as .....He and She
Running hand in hand

Soul mates from initial breath
Welded at one core
Love so absolutely blessed
Who could ask for more?

Seasons pass, and childen grow
And only ONE love....did they know
Upon each other's trust they lived
Sharing all they had to give

But

When the He said to the She
As they walked hand and hand..
A fortune I would give to thee
More than this beach holds sands

So I must journey far and wide
My love to find this treasure
When I return, you'll be my bride
Your happiness.....MY pleasure!!

She knew his heart, as tho her own
And sadly....she agreed
As he set sail....she stood alone
And stared out to the sea

For weeks and days, she watched the waves
And months turned into years
No letters sent, to her lament
His death was what she feared!

She wished upon the stars one night
That she could swim the seas
Encased within a light so bright
She fell upon her knees

Without a sound, as she looked down
Her legs became a tail
They shimmered like a long green gown
Her skin by moonlight....pale

Thru the waves she swam alone
Avoiding sailor's ships
His name as prayer...became her own
When uttered from her lips

The years went by...the ocean cried
She swam the shore.....alone
True love abides...but when it dies
The spirit turns to stone

Excellent, Anita. In fact, you could turn it into an epic poem. Take a look at "The Ice Princess." It started out as a 5 stanza poem, or less, I don't recall. There is so much more you could tell.
