Another life, another time, another love..

IN THE BEGINNING

My love is a woman born of love

Conditioned in faith about things above

Her world was formed with a dagger of guilt

When marriage came, it was thrust to the hilt

Her culture became a prison – her husband the screw

But endure she did – and did the best she could do

THE END OF BEGINNING

The news of a loved sibling close to her end

The tears of desperation, but the screw wouldn’t bend

Her spirit was crushed under extreme duress

Her humility absorbed by death’s caress

It was the beginning of the end for the life she had built

My love walked away wrapped in a shroud of guilt

THE BEGINNING OF THE END

Her need was forsaken, for the sake of her loves

The reward for her sacrifice were pushes and shoves

Try as she might to make the second vow last

The end of the beginning was becoming the past

Once again free to find her reason for being

But condemned by her loves who see without seeing

RIDING THE STORM TO HELL

He drew her into a world she never knew existed

But such was his love she never resisted

His world was divided between love and need

So he worked on the need without any heed-

For the love, he thought on its own, would succeed

But misguided commitments concerning his blood

And the witches in the background grovelling in mud

Such belief in his love that it would always prevail

Inconceivable was the thought that it ever would fail

And as the mistakes arose he started to rebel

He lost sight of his love and was drawn into hell

A TREASURE IN THE DARKNESS

My hell is here on earth today

Concrete walls spirited my freedom away

But blessings come in strange disguise

And the future’s clear through misty eyes

You’re my treasure in the darkness as an inmate

Bide with me my love to complete my fate

My devils have died in my humble cell

Alone, my world will die as well-

Forever

This is poetry, David!!! Loved the rhythm of your words and the story that unwound as I read. The title of this one drew me in, and I'm glad it did. Very much enjoyed!

Such a compelling poem, David; I am impressed with the way you have "constructed" it. The rhythm and the rhyme indicate much discipline. Thank you for sharing this offering. Love and peace to you,

Regis

You write beautifully. The flow of this poem is perfection and the message of pain and love are interwoven like threads if pure gold.

David, the emotion I feel after reading this is strange...as though, in some sense, I had been dragged to hell feeling the pain that is within your lines. We all have the strength within us to go on...it's all in the "wanting" to...and many times, life is much better than before. A line comes to mind..."If only I knew then what I know now."...but in saying that...it's better to know now than to never know at all. Faith, belief, hope...it's what makes us continue and move on.
