When a loved one walks out the door, we never know if we will see them alive again.
An Autumn Departure
You walked out,
Without kissing me good-bye.
I’m confident you weren’t angry.
It was merely an absent-minded act,
But one that troubled me even so.
To compound my concern,
There was a torrential rain,
With autumn leaves
Covering the roadway,
Making driving all the more hazardous. Will our lips ever touch yet again? Was the thought that plagued me
As seconds turned to hours.
My zealous plea
Was for God to shield you
And deliver you securely home
To the one who adores you
Beyond words’ expression.
