My Poem For Goodbye

This is probably the "heaviest" poem I have ever written. Most of us have experienced true love and have found that time and circumstance led to the demise of the relationship. I did and I tried to capture my emotions in words when I wrote this. This is from the chapter, "Poems of Drifting Apart", in my book of poems, "Acorns of Love and Wisdom." There were times when I couldn't read this poem without feeling emotion. As in all my poetry, I try to use words and placement of them to create imagery, thoughts and emotion in the reader.

MY POEM FOR GOODBYE

While we loved
Those years gone by
Our lives combined
In a special way

With the spirit of youth
We danced together
And we sang love songs
Throughout the night

We picked wild flowers
From spring gardens
We strolled among colored leaves
Which had fallen in the fall

I wrote you poems
About beaches and Summer
We shared our warmth
When winter called

So then, you came
To say goodbye
I could scarce
Believe my ears

Yet the emptiness
In our bed
Exposed this fork
In pathways past

So, with one last wave
Across new distance
Now, alone
I walked away

And with nothing then
Left there for me
I sent you this one last verse
My poem for goodbye

Really heart-wrenching, but captures the fragility of a love relationship
