Who Knew?

An episode flashed across the screen of my life,
And I would have sworn at any given moment
That it was the complete truth.
Nothing was missing from this dream,
Nothing was better than joining to you
As it had to be.

It must have been suspended animation-
No clocks ticking, no movement of the calendar
To another day….
Nothing could change this.
Nothing should change this.

Our meeting again after so many years
This time defined us,
And it seemed that for the first time
We knew who we were.

I have no memory of the instant,
The Big Bang that must have been,
For suddenly the screen is blank.
I can hear the fan motor,
I can make out my own body in some eerie glow,
But I can’t find your face anywhere,
No sound of your voice.
I’m redefined.
Alone.
