Someone told me once, "If you're not happy, it's because you're only thinking of yourself." There's so much truth in that. Your poem here hit it right on the head. I love literary pieces with deep meaning to them, so you must know I loved this.

Still, I have in the back of my mind that you might be mistaken as to how much it mattered to her. It's very difficult to put one's self into another so deeply that you undertand the measure of their feelings.

What I think is important is that despite your conclusion that it may not matter to her as much as you want it to matter, you may be totally wrong. Obviously, she is expressing her love and concern for you: "She tells me how she loves me-she's been telling me for years." I think it really does matter to her. She might be simply unable to express her appreciation in the manner that you conclude would be more appropriate--in your view.

John, this is to me a very provocative poem that I'm sure arises out of your experience in working so many years with those in the health arena that need your presence and support. Bless you and your work.

And thank you for sharing this vulnerable lady with us. Far too often, many of us seem to appreciate and value only those with a smile and a happy face.
