I Loved You Then

As far as one can travel back
Through corridors of time-
The tiny egg that life would crack-
Our parent’s nursery rhyme.

They carried you into my world
Not thinking I would see,
A tiny life with hair all cured-
What could it mean to me?

But if it was a life ago
Or only yesterday,
The only thing you need to know
Is love will find a way.

I still can see and always do
That girl who was around,
For something made me look at you-
And wonder what I found.

Your shiny shoes and stockings tight,
Barrettes you’d sometimes drop,
Your legs were either red or white-
Just tell me when to stop.

The infant child of Jesus played,
Then Mary, Joseph’s wife.
Through time ‘till I would grow afraid
To lose you from my life.

That somehow hasn’t happened yet,
Though firm in separate ways-
There’s not a day that I forget-
You are a song that plays

The soundtrack as my story goes-
However it turns out,
And I’ll just say nobody knows…
But you’re what it’s about.
