With You

With you, I so forget the rules-
To be among your favorite fools-
Without a doubt, enduring charm-
I need not ask you, “What’s the harm?”

Oh there was some- a while ago-
Some things we had to learn, you know-
To live in honor’s rightful place,
And then I met you, face to face-

So you could see- an open book,
To find your smile, that’s all it took-
We’ll never lose this love for need,
New gifts each time the waves recede.

Basking in a world of heart-
Somehow this happy- though apart-
This love is greater, always, still-
The way we feel, and always will.

I didn’t know- to lose was fine-
And wouldn’t change this love of mine-
My greatest wishes all fulfilled
With friendship that our lives would build.

The greater gifts are yours to give
Yet I’m the one they cause to live
In ways that mostly angels do,
But I’ll just call it loving you.
