She looks into a mirror that she doesn’t know is me,
At things she thinks she has to fix that I could never see.
All wonder she’s been given- thinks there’s something she must do-
But life is not reflections, it’s the love that’s coming through.
I have to grin, and shake my head. Inside- I’m on my knees.
“Love what you’ve done,” I say to her, but God- what this man sees.
There’s just no words, but simple things that I will try to share-
With every day, in every hour- to show how much I care.
A handy one to have around, I chip away at chores
To ease her way, still looking at this one my heart adores.
Some gentle hugs, such loss for words, just hoping she can feel-
The trembling of a greater love life wishes to reveal.
As days unwind and stretch across the tapestry of sky
She doesn’t change what I can see, but thinks she has to try.
I’m always here, a ceaseless smile life never will remove-
Just speaking out with everything to tell her I approve.
I only hope she’ll come to see- the thing that won’t get old-
No power on earth could ever touch, if I may be so bold.
This gift of life, a miracle of things- just as they are-
And what is in the mirror is a precious shining star.
