For whatever reason I find my spirit can be so easily crushed. But I find I am very adept at living with a crushed spirit, and that is how it must be. I will not wake up in the morning to newspapers filled with good news. Friendly drivers will not wave and smile as I pass by. Much needed services will not become affordable as I grow to need them more. Fun will not replace violence as the major spectator sport of humans as I walk my brief path on through.
But I’m Okay.
I feel as though I am just water. We mostly are you know.
But I embrace it in a way that makes me invincible.
You can freeze me and smash me, splat me down over the street, wash your hands and dump me down the drain. None of it changes me.
If I must be a spectator watching over you as the clouds unnoticed, so be it.
But I will hold on to my dreams. I will always know what I wanted- though I had no choice but go with the flow.
I wanted to baptize you in the name of love. I wanted to wrap myself around you like a hot bath and let you soak in admiration and peace.
I wanted to linger in your hair as dew drops which glisten in the sunshine making me the jewelry that only draws attention to how beautiful you really are.
This is the secret. We are water, and something magical happens if we let the light hit us right. We should stay close to that which keeps us warm enough to flow.
What are you spilling?
Whatever we go through in our lifetimes, the most important thing is to hold true to ourselves. Let the lies and troubles wash right through us as we soldier on.
What a great summary of life and how to hold a lot of its disappointments at bay. Being true to yourself often requires being a shield, a buffer against the tide of refuse that life throws at us. But as you have so well penned, it cannot inundate the love that we refuse to give away on the cheap. So well said!
An amazing piece. I guess it's not a poem, but it sure feels like one. A moment, a feeling captured, leaving us with a question calling for an answer. Fitting at year's end.
