Remembering, or finding- Dad.

One Last Time

Someone left the light on-
And I learned that it was God.
Another hike in wilderness
But this time- something odd.

Things the mind can’t understand-
But there are ways to know
That reach into the deepest places
Reason cannot go.

Something told me, “Stop a while.”
Maybe- in a dream.
Sunshine turned into a smile-
Things ain’t what they seem.

Who is this- a silhouette?
Better things can’t be-
Love I never could forget-
Coming back to me.

“Look at that”- the tears are coming-
This will be a flood-
Some familiar tune we’re humming-
Here in flesh and blood.

“Dad,” and yet this isn’t dreaming-
Dapper in his cap-
Don’t know why my heart’s not screaming-
This is off the map.

Just that smile, those piercing eyes-
Standing both aglow-
Look at us, two crazy guys
From way, back long ago.


Nothing either needs to say-
Stars above two men.
Love that never went away-
Sees the truth again.
