My Precious Prodigal

You’re somewhat like the prodigal- you get the same reception.
I’ll throw my kingdom at your feet in spite of your deception.
For things you do that hurt me you don’t do because you’re bad.
I call you “Precious angel and the best of friends I’ve had.”

You only look for happiness, but happiness is grace.
I’ve got it all when I just hold the picture of your face.
If only you could get inside my heart and know your name,
You’d never need another thing if you could love the same.

That’s what I mean by “soulmate,”- and it’s what I mean by you...
The way I look at us and see just one instead of two.
We’re cursed because love isn’t given out in equal measure,
So, unlike you, I just can’t be the source of endless pleasure.

But it should be some comfort that you know I love you so,
And if you need a friend to lean on you know where to go.
If I can’t be your leading man or win your hand at last,
It’s Heaven if you let me be in your supporting cast.
