I wonder if we two can make a deal,
A simple thing that I would like to see
Because of just how happy I now feel
That you are such a special friend to me.
You may decide I’m crazy when you hear
This silly little thing I have in mind.
But I can’t help it; you are just so dear
And more a friend than I had hoped to find.
Each time we get together we should lend
Some item that we value very much.
A precious treasure borrowed from a friend-
That guarantees we have to keep in touch.
Not that we would forget how it can mean
So much to get together now and then,
But I don’t want much time to grow between
The time when I will be with you again.
So if I have a gift I must return,
Or there is something I need back from you-
There won’t be so much time for me to yearn
To be with you, my favorite thing to do.
