Harsh reality in South Africa. Children are raped on a daily basis in the mistaken belief that sex with a virgin cures AIDS. A true story.

Broken Angel

Child, who heard your cries?
Who could ever begin
to understand the pain
you felt inside?
Your tiny body used,

then tossed aside.

I watched you 'play'
and the look in your eyes
spoke more than you could say.
My heart broke
under your scrutiny
and I thought about
how it's meant to be...

You were born to trust
to climb trees, to giggle,
skip and to run free.
Instead, you were forced
to play a different game.
They gave you two dolls
to help you emulate
what was done to you.

Only nine, your little fingers
entwined tight in mine.

I walked with you
into the courtroom
and told you
you'd be fine.
but your wise old eyes
told me you knew better,
You always do.

Yes, of course
he was released on bail.
Smiling - free
And that travesty of justice
will forever stay with me.

Dearest Chanti,

Like you said:

"we have not commented much on one another's poetry but that is because we are friends in real life and speak daily on the telephone..."

You know that I think you are truly an incredibly gifted and talented friend.

May your work be forever a waterfall of your inspired talent.

Much love precious friend

Chanti, you have handled this horrifying issue with such tenderness, class and dignity and I truly applaud your effort to bring this to terrible subject to light, but I must vent!!!… This is such an outrage!!!… Although I had to walk away from this review so I could try to calm down, which obviously I haven’t settled down enough, I still must post this review before my head flies off!!!… How in the world could anyone in power not try and stop this from happening to a little girl, regardless even if they are absolutely insane, believe that by anyone hurting a poor defenseless child by doing this traumatizing, despicable, unspeakable act of violence against a little innocent child, and infecting the same child would cure them of their own disease???!!!… Furthermore, I wonder is the United States sending money to this uncivilized part of this country knowing that this is happening to these little innocent children???!!!… Are these degenerated scumbags being fully tried and/or executed for this heinous crime???!!!… I cannot believe they would allow anyone committing this against a child to be set free!!!… Smile, he should be beheaded first below and then above the dirty rotten S.O.B.!!!… You can delete this if you want, I am sorry but I am just so sick and tired of little children being abused, and for that matter anyone!!!… ALL THIS MADNESS MUST STOP!!!… Please forgive me for sounding off on your board!!!

People who believed in having sex with virgins can cure aids just needed an excuse to abuse virgins. They know better that it doesn't do the purpose. These people are murderers who should be hanged for knowing commit the crime to give death sentence to an innocent person.
