Looking Back...

When I was brought squalling
into this aching world
The night was dark
My cries
heralded the dawn

An early photograph
Black and white,
sepia stained
show a baby
with large eyes of innocence
Hair shock upright
A surprised look on its face

Freckles later painted my cheeks
My hair grew long, gold
I pursued adventures,
my little brother
at my side
We climbed rocks
And arms raised
fancied we could fly

Two children unwanted,
Together bound by love
Promised undying loyalty
When he was beaten
I cried his tears
My welts
became his pain
Two children so unwanted
we discovered our own world
And slipped into fantasy
We were not unwanted there
And it became our reality

Princess of a mystic land
Prince who'd become a King
I took his hand and lead him
extended my finger for a ring
Ring a ring a rosies,
pocket full of posies
Wishing well,
better than hell
Jack came tumbling after
tumbling after...

He came tumbling after

From the child so "unwanted" you have become a priceless treasure loved by all, dear Chanti. Love.

This is literally drenched with a secret
"inner message."
A most profound piece of writing, Chanti.
I perceive (more and more) that you are a
very deep individual, and a many-faceted talent.

This is painful and profound.
That last line sticks with me.

Chanti, this is heartbreaking. I worry about the next chapter, but I know that despite the pain you will express, its release from your mind will give you relief. ~ Sara

Powerful heartwrenching write and very emotive!!!… Chanti, I am always deeply saddened whenever I see children who were abused early in their sacred life!!!… I do know the everlasting scars caused to a child who’s been neglected, and the vicious cycle it creates in its unforgivable wake!!!… My heart cries out to all children who have been abused, and I do not believe in not looking back!!!… We must always remember and try to reach out and help whenever possible!!!… To those who say, one must bury the past, are only kidding themselves and leaving the tormenting door wide open for it to continue, and the long-term healing process to be stopped dead in its tracks by doing so!!!… Poet, I commend you for speaking clearly to us from your tender soul, and may you and any child who has been abused find solace in knowing that you are not alone, and shall never be forgotten!!!… We shall together one day, rid this beautiful planet of ours, of all the needless suffering caused by human beings, who forget what it means to be a human being!!!… My prayers and best wishes are with you and yours my friend!!!… Respectfully submitted.

it takes a strength to overcome the past ... this poem is progressing very nicely, allowing the reader to step into your experience and feel an visualize its surrounding memories, very potent as they are ... the imagery is spectacular ...

I'll keep your brother in my prayers, Chanti. This has such wonderful expression in the last verse. Your wonderful heart and compassion for others shines in all you do.

I, my dear, am grateful.

Thanks for the review Ronald. It is true as are most of my poems. I write as a form of catharsis and it has always helped. I wrote this recently when I found out that my brother had been found after weeks of not knowing where he was. It got me thinking and remembering...and writing. I hope it doesn't upset anyone. I see my story (all of it) as one of hope. I have experienced much in this life but I have one thing going for me.... love. I choose it and it flows from me. I no longer live with bitterness and hatred but am filled with love and compassion for those who are in pain. I is my life's ambition to be able to use my experiences to help others. If my words do this in some way then it has all been worth it.
In gratitude...Chanti

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
