Written about depression and suicide. It is NOT my own mental state and so please don't worry about me. I'M OK!!! Promise! :-) It was written a while ago but I decided to tackle a rewrite and this is the result. I'd love your opinions and feedback. Thanks

Poem Artwork

The sky is sinister, bleak,
and bruised with dark clouds.
Slivers of a nebulous moon
are mirrored in puddles of rain.
She stares with vacuous eyes
glazed with mute tears
her doleful heart thuds within,
utterly consumed with pain

Love, that once opened up a great
treasure chest of glittering jewels
Now cuts like sharp shards of ice
and rips her soul with rapacious claw
The joy that once danced in her eyes
and adorned her soul
swallowed by desolation.
She is trapped, helpless, raw

Dismally, she walks with leaden feet
to face her image in a cold mirror
Eyes darkened with anguish
stare from a face ghostly white
Hope gone, after lonely hours
yawned seemingly into eternity
Fear grips as darkness descends,
obliterating the light

I read this and I thought about how terrible it is to lose love but then I thought about how wondrous it is to find it again.

The end of the road is often only a sign that a new journey is about to begin.

A beautiful depiction of changing state from jewels to sharp shards of ice.... "dancing joy" in eyes and , "lonely hours yawning into eternity" and "fear" that ultimately accompany us when everything leaves us..... Chanti this is very true and touching. Very powerful expression and a great write... Please read my "Tragedies"

This is intense, the feeling and emotion generated are all too familiar but you are right dear friend...it must be wondrous to find love again.

Chanti,

The depths of your expression is very powerful and your imagery is outstanding. I can feel the pain in this write. Your message at the end is full of wisdom. If one keeps their heart open to love, it will come again and oh how glorious!

Chanti, sometimes the raw power of love, can and will leave a long lasting bruise, yet through finding the inner strength, one has a golden opportunity to allow a new door to open should one seek the light. You have a natural gift to express the inner most fears with remarkable clarity. Thank you for sharing your work. Take care and be well.

I read once that "It is better to have loved and lost...much better." It sort of goes along with this poem...and you are right. The closing of a door always means another one will be opening. And the path beyond the new door is often much smoother. Lovely write Chanti!

I think I read a version of this before; and it was powerful then; and maybe even more powerful now, Chanti.

You are so right, it often takes a lifetime to learn this and some people never do and the results are often as tragic as your poem. I'm glad you learned it early. Well donw Chanti.

I can't help but think of people like Sylvia Plath and Virginia Woolfe
when I read an intensely moving piece like this.
You are so talented, Ms. Chanti, and I have to keep wondering why
you don't know that about yourself.
A brilliant "mind search" in these lines, and I am so glad it is
NOT you that you write about here.

This has a heart-rending depth of sorrow. But I love your final comment! You seem to have a way of taking is both 'down' and 'up' in the same space of time; and that is an intriguing gift. -- Jeff

Chanti You captured every nuance of the emotions one goes through, but your note shows the hope that is always there. As is said the calm ater the storm, the light after the darkness! Beautifully done in your lovely unique style!...love, Eileen

You are so correct. Losing a love, being betrayed by it leaves scars that last a long time...and years later, the pain remains, rather like the ghost pain of an amputee. You nailed those emotions and pain in this piece. Finding a love that is true, honest, recquiring work but is also oddly effortless softens the scars and is a balm for the pain. Well done, Chanti.
