Sonnet written for a writer's challenge on Lasting Impressions. I chose to write about the psychological condition known as 'Schizophrenia' and was inspired to do so by someone I know who has it. The Sonnet follows the Italian (or Pentrachian) form and is written in Iambic pentameter. I'd love constructive critique.

Thanks to Elga for the graphics.

Sonnet Follia

Tempestuous as stormy ocean tide

A strange phenomenon ascribed to moon

Hallucination hears that mocking tune

Philosopher of truth can't be denied

The trees gesticulate officiously

like sentries standing tall between the trails

Nefarious of sound, the scheming gales;

their voices mocking with profanity

Insanity has claim'd coherent thought.

Disease that like a demon rules with fear.

Escape impossible for death's dark bride.

Quiescent but for silent, scorching tear.

Veracity no longer is denied.

Her plans 'n dreams of future come to naught.

The first 8 lines of the sonnet produce the 'mood' and in the 9th line (Volta) the proposition is explained. In this case, the word 'Insanity'.  In the second line a cryptic clue is given. The word 'moon' in French is la lune from which 'lunatic' is derived. All the descriptive words used prior are clues to the condition.

Many many years ago this condition would be described as 'madness'.  Today we are more sensitive to this and other psychological conditions. Conditions such as shizophrenia are often well controlled with the correct drugs..

A supreme work of art, both textually and graphically.

Sad thing is some people are dignosed with shizophrenia, that really are hearing voices, and its not their mind cracking. Thanks for the sharing.

"Sonnet Follia (Madness)".

This is a poetic Flower with aroma of knowledge and art.
The subject dealt was developed to its best. The lexicon
employed did enrich the poem. I liked the rhythm of this
composition, except in lines twelfth and fourteenth.

This poem was written in FREE VERSE – including free rhyme –
and it does add scent to the poetic Garden.

Healthy Long Creative Life, Poet!

The words are beautiful and flow well together. But I don't exactly understand the concept. Maybe it's because I can't read with all of those flashing lights behind the copy.
