A tongue-in-cheek poem during a particularly tough day at work. Early night for me tonight...

Poem Artwork

Exhaustion, leans upon me
with heavy obstinacy
Coffee makes me jittery
and I've run out of tea
The atmosphere smudged
dark like charcoal -
lacking detail, blurred
fuzzy patterns on a page
Noise rubs annoyingly
across my senses,
reverberates in
hollow chambers and
echoes with delusion
My aching shoulders
no longer feel like
they're a part of me.
Head pounds
thoughts fuzzy
My bed calls out
my name
I ignore its beckoning
continue working
After all,
I'm playing
the waking game...

As a shift worker, I’ve struggled with this dilemma many times.
You’ve captured a moment in time…fighting sleep, resisting surrender. The answer remains untold. Who shall be the victor – the mind or the body? Conflict within – well done and a joy to read!

Who hasn't been there?! When was your last vacation? She laughs...Ok, then when was your last massage? You bear a heavy load taking care of others. Make time to take care of yourself...

Excellent ending to this write! It sounds like you were on overload. I hope you got some rest tonight. :)

Chanti you describe it so well, the frustrations of being harried from a combination of work, tiredness, having obligations etc .We
have so much on our plates sometimes it's a wonder we get anything
done.;-) Excellent poem!

Only you, Chanti, could pen something this meaningful
after a long and arduous day at work. You are something else,
beautiful lady!
But try to slow down a bit...I hate to see you push yourself
so hard.

A beautiful poem, but it made me exhausted. I used to feel that way. But I am retired now and blissfully happy. I don't miss work at all.

I know the feeling well, and it is a miserable feeling.

Sadly, I often find I am too tired to go to bed...after a rough afternoon at work, I go home and find a second wind, and the early bedtime that I often need never seems to happen. :(

Thanks for writing and sharing. :)

Tongue-in-cheek or not, I thought this a very good poem. (Sorry, I can't ever seem to express how I feel about things I read. I'm an okay poet, I guess, but lousy at expressing how much I enjoy other peoples work...I've noted this on other writers as well. Well...anyway...great work here.

Lack of sleep and caffeine; a bad combination, Chanti. Better heed the beckoning bed methinks. Thank you for sharing something that most can relate to, I am quite sure. Love to you. Regis
