When your heart is hollowed out like stone Is it love? When you fear to be alone Is it love? When fragile tears smudge your vision Is it love? When two are multiplied though in division Is it love? When your daily life become surreal Is it love? When the dream feels far too real Is it love? When you walk with leaden feet Is it love? ...ignoring potholes in the street? Is it love? ...is it love?
Or... Does it rejoice in every day hold to hope and kneels to pray? Doesn't fear in being alone knows it always has a home? Does it stand in victory with the strength to be set free? and can it soar with eagles wings with the faith that heaven brings? knowing it wasn't all in vain to learn those lessons wrought in pain?
"When fragile tears smudge your vision?" Chanti your muse is very powerful and so is your site and profile

An extremely thought-provoking series of questions, Chanti, in
a well-composed piece.
I wanted to read all the poems I could tonight, before my eye
surgery, and am glad I got to read these.
Thank you!
You have learned life's lessons well. Whether inside the naive soul or the stong warrior....love is still love. You deserve peace, serenity and happiness after all you have been through.
What a BEAUTIFUL and contrapuntal write that says all that needs to be said, Chanti, with such grace and finesse. Yes, this is love, elegantly portrayed and penned by someone who knows what she is talking about! This is a gift to us, thank you. Kate xx
You present this so clearly that the questions are all rhetorical to me. This speaks right to the depth of my soul. I would be dishonest to say that no part of me falls into the first category. But I am striving more and more to get to the second that you elicit so well. I know I love deeply albeit sometimes not in a very "controlled" manner. This is a most powerful poem, dearest Chanti. Thank you for the lesson. Much love to you.
I guess whatever all that mourning and longing stuff we all seem to inevitably go thru is love, but I think it deserves another name. HELL. I like the 2nd part of your poem. That describes what love should be but what it often is not. Beautiful write Chanti. Michelle
The beginning describes lovesickness, the poet's know it well. Anthropologists and biologists will tell you it's the rage of hormones most often swelling within the first six months of a new relationship when you can think of nothing else but the new lover. A dangerous stage that is simply infatuation and the wise woman will be wary during this time for lust and obsession often mimics true love. The real deal ususally comes after this period is over. It's then that you're more like to notice each other's faults and decide if you really like the person or just like their body and some other traits that pass away with time. It's then that you begin to make the decision to stay despite the faults. Infatuation is maturing to genuine affection, loyalty, compassion, and trust: the second half of your poem. If you're both sane, then this may indeed be love. ;-)
Guess I'm in practical mode today, Chanti. Very good poem, you've got here. Suppose I'll do okay on my upcoming radio show about relationships. I've got enough blarney for it. :-D ~~Nordette
Ahhhhhh sweet Chanti, only you could capture both sides and images of love and yes it is all those things and more. You have a heart that has the capacity to give love unlimited and it shows in your passion for writitng. Thank you for sharing your feelings and your heart.
Chanti this is a very good write. I enjoyed readin g this very much. May the Lord be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love, peace, & (((HUGS))), Barbie
An Absolutley outstanding wirte Chanti, I love the juxtaposition, I think you've covered most of what love is/is not. It's such a complicated concept that at times it can be hard to pin down. You've done this with such style. I know one thing for sure, when poverty comes knocking at the door love tends to fly out the window.
Inspirational poetry, written from the heart and soul. Verses that are well-suited for reading on a rainy day and that are guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.
YES YES YES!!!!!!

The pain surely can't be can it?
I hope not Chanti, but it has
to teach us how to love. A marvelous
poem! Brava!
excellent query into the validity of love ...
Provocative, incisive questions that demand honest answers.
WELL WRITTEN--BRAVA! You may have saved many heartache and grief through your wisdom, Poet! GOOD ON YOU!

We all have the choice to set it aside
or to use this gift that was given
for all of us to share.
I believe that True Love is giving and forgiving.

Good poem. Enjoyable play on words to describe the difference between true love and infatuation.
