I wonder how many people feel like this about Christmas?
I am far from home at this time and miss my children like crazy.
People trying so hard to be happy in their efforts they miss the mark Desperate attempts to capture a feeling To bring light to a world that seems dark. Mayhem and chaos reigns supreme As last minute shopping is done. Sweaty faces and empty pockets And this is supposed to be fun? Every year it is just the same The shopkeepers smile with glee As parents strive to keep their kids happy and so embark on a shopping spree. It's so easy to be cynical and wonder if there is no meaning. When people have lost the plot and don't know which way they are leaning. Is this the day that Christ was born or is it a Pagan celebration? Politcal correctness is our concern Debate rages throughout the nation. What does it matter when all's said and done Why do we argue so? Wouldn't it be easier to use this time as a reason to let it all go? Whatever your beliefs or religion whatever rituals you observe What's important is how much you love It's a gift that our children deserve.
PS: I love Christmas. As a Christian it has special meaning for me. I am only cynical about how much people argue over the meaning. Wouldn't it be wonderful if people could put their differences aside and love one another just for this one day?

I enjoy having a few relaxing days at mum n dads. Using Advent like lent. And using the time for caring n sharing. Remembering christmas' when we were 9 kids. 2am get up seeing what father christmas has brought. Then playing with them in our sisters room till light. Then opened and played till turkey o'clock.

Bah! Humbug! lol, that's me and xmas,I totally agree Chant's it's a time of peace and happiness (so why is everyone so bloody misrable?). The fates always conspire against me at this time of year to make sure I have a pooh time, but not this year Ha! even though they left me penniless they didn't ruin it, in fact I've had a wonderful time, and enjoyed something of new experience for me. A Polish Christmas, which was superb, and very spiritual. Plus the fact I had the Love of a good woman and that's all anyone could wish for, just that aspect alone made it one of the best I've had in a long time. I have agree with Robert about materialism though, that sucks.
I don't like cynicism, especially at Christmas, and I'd rather err on the side of too much than have it eradicated as some would like. That's the problem in all of life we never seem able to find a balance! Excellent write Chanti, making some excellent points!
Like John Lennon in Imagine, you hope for a more peaceful time. If we just simplify our lives and focus on the essential, it becomes clear and we can take joy in each day, Christmas or not.
Christmas brings a time of reflection, which in our busy material worlds we often neglect. Any bitterness we feel is in direct corelation to our own inner turmoil. Each of us is challenged to
find the wonder, the beauty, the true gift that waits in this day and rise above the commercial emptiness..."how much we love", indeed!

I am so sick of Christmas, but if it wasn't for this holiday I would probably forget to show the people I care about that they are special to me. Happy Holidays Chanti. ~ Sara
The Santa celebration is for the children, but they should be taught the true meaning of Christmas and why we celebrate it. We do not have Christmas so that they can have that new I-Pod they have been eyeing, they get the I-Pod because we wish to give our humble gift as a reminder that Christ gave all that he had to the people of the earth. I think that gets lost in the whole production that we now call "Holiday;" even the name has been changed to protect the narrow-minded who feel that we should never utter His name in a public place. "Gimme a break and humor me for a few days would ya??"
I would think that to spend Christmas away from your children would be heartbreaking. I think that no matter where I would travel for Christmas, my kids would just have to tag along with me. After all, Christmas is a holiday that is formed on the concept of family. ...and you are right when you say "What's important is how much you love"...in a nutshell, you have said it all. Merry Christmas and I hope you will be reunited with your children very soon.
