A distant howl broke the silence of the night,
causing a cold chill to run down our spines,
the yellowish moon full, and ever so bright,
calling from beyond of what’s yours or mine.
Shadows dancing upon the picture filled wall,
each flicker of the candles they pranced about,
towering ghostly figures appearing ever so tall,
without saying a single word they seem to shout.
Then out of no where in the darkness of night,
there came a sudden banging upon the door,
hearts jumped missing a beat from the fright,
and strangely enough we all fell upon the floor.
It happened once again, this time a single tap,
between the howling, the shadows cast a fear,
curling up with our heads laying on our laps,
shaking in utter despair we each shed a tear.
Suddenly the door swung open with a creak,
our hearts a pounding we all gasped for air,
in the door stood the neighbor boy so meek,
cold and wet, hoping we had food to share.
