A poem of thanks for Thanksgiving Day. Happy Thanksgiving to one and all !
Ready to Give Thanks
By John Herlihy
There was a time when I didn’t give a damn,
I was ready to take part in any low-life scam.
The road of my destiny spread out before me,
Nothing in the world would dare to scare me.
The world itself was nestled under my feet,
My flute played melodies that served up a treat.
Then, one day came when my world fell apart,
Everything I valued had taken leave to depart.
I had no job, no money, no success, and no fame,
I was lucky to still call myself by my own name.
Everything of value had fallen down into a hole,
My harmonica played a melody with mournful soul.
Now, my basket is full of mulberries and pistachios,
Virgin olive oil overflows, black seed oil fills my vats.
Golden honey and Burgundy wine fill my wooden cups,
The finest wheats and grains fill my empty storage bins.
My home is a cornucopia of accumulated possessions,
My cymbals rings aloud of the happiness within me.
Now again I feel bereft without You and Your blessing,
The tide has gone out and again will need redressing.
You once said to the faithful you would always be true ,
But I continue to experience the many and the few.
In the quiet of the night, my mind and my bones,
Will learn to be satisfied with blossoms and stones.
Whether my provision represents scarcity or plenty,
Whether my emotions are full of darkness or light,
I am ready to give sincere thanks to the One, the Only,
To the Friend and Beloved, there is no one called the other.
This day and every day will be a Day of Thanksgiving,
For the knowledge and grace that come with life’s giving.
'HE' IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE 'ONE' THAT REALLY MATTERS, FOR WITHOUT HIM WE HAVE...NOTHING! THANKS FOR SHARING AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING! LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

It is interesting how you couched your words so as not to offend Christians who believe that they have the right to claim Thanksgiving day as their own.
I have had great misfortune, like you, and still have come out on top in my later life, partly because of luck and partly because of perseverance. I now can give back everything I won't need when I'm gone. I give thanks only for that, not for blessings bestowed by some entity that doesn't exist but makes me feel warm thinking that it does.
