I ask for nothing more than a simple life,
A life to call my own without undue strife.
To achieve a simple life is easier said than done;
We dream of impossibilities that offer no real fun.
Mind you, dreams are important and have their role;
When our dreams burst, then regret takes its toll.
There must be something beyond the reach of dreams,
A thing more comforting than the lies our dreams seem.
What about a horizon beyond which dreams don’t matter;
Slip over the edge and like paint our dreams just splatter.
Who needs the likes of a dream if they never come true ;
Dreams just play with us anyway, like a mischievous shrew.
I would sell my dreams cheap; hell, I would give them away,
Like colored confetti blown into the wind, they hold no sway.
Let me close my eyes and peer into the darkness within;
My dreams I have forsaken, just like the wages of sin.
I reach out blind to realize someone has taken my hand,
Leading me beyond dreams into a reality close at hand.
as is said here, a thing more comforting than the lies our dreams seem is just someone's hand in flesh able to lead you by your hand. . . it is also said that a good doctor is only 30 percent of successful healing, the rest 70 still belongs to a patient. I like this performance in general and the angle of approach particularly. Cheers, alex
Dreams are my friend. I dream when I'm sleeping, have daydreams, dreamwalk, and all kinds of dreamy stuff. There are some dreams I wish ended with "To be continued." written at the end because they are so good. It's like going to the movies!! Sometimes, my dreams are all I have. I do have some rare dreams that I would gladly give away as well but that's a long story!! Thank you for a different "take" on dreams.
I agree that our dreams can be misleading. And that the simple life is the best life, quite unattainable in our complex world these days. As far as someone, "taking my hand," I have those in this life and don't expect any hand reaching out when I go because I won't need a hand at all when I fade to black.
I'm with you on the drams to a point, John, but without dreams to guide -- or misguide -- us life would be simple and boring. You forever give up something to think about.
Love ya!
