Sometimes we think we are not strong enough to bear,
What life has to offer us, in the destiny we must share.
Remember childhood’s miseries when you simply didn’t care;
Sadness just overwhelmed you like a cloak you shouldn’t wear.
Remember you thought that life was forever with days to spare,
Until your closest friend suddenly died, throwing you into despair.
Financial concerns dragged you down into a trap to ensnare,
Leaving you poverty-stricken and alone without any fanfare.
Forgive me if I’m wrong, but you’ve got the strength of a bear;
You can do what you have to do without being the worse for wear.
You are strong enough to be all you are supposed to be with flair,
To live each moment to its fullest without being caught in a snare?
When you reach rock bottom, you need to reach out anywhere.
Someone will take your hand, lift you up, and to your face declare,
You are strong enough to overcome what you think you cannot bear.
In the end I was thinking about that skit by Al Franken that he used to do on SNL where he would look in the mirror and say something like, "I'm strong enough. I'm good enough…"
But in a way you've covered all or most of the problems that beset us that strength can overcome. And, I'm grateful that I've not faced most of those sadnesses.
People have often told me that I'm one of the strongest people they've known but I didn't see that for myself until recently. Only then did their reassurances truly mean anything.
That is good that someone can take your hand and offer consoling, strong words, but it is better if you can come to that conclusion all by yourself. Still . . . You are correct in your assumption that some need that little extra "push" in the right direction.
But in a way you've covered all or most of the problems that beset us that strength can overcome. And, I'm grateful that I've not faced most of those sadnesses.
