When I walk idly through the city streets,
When my heart falters and skips a few beats,
When I groan throughout my working day,
When I sigh when things don’t go my way,
When I wake up into the chill of a cold, cloudy sky,
When I lay myself down to sleep as though to die,
When frustration seems to be my only friend,
When despair peeks over the horizon signaling the end,
When a love lost is a love never to experience again,
When my hopes and dreams only flow down the drain.
I am happily decked out in my winter clothes like Joe Blow,
I am suitably dressed for the occasion like a farmyard scarecrow.
Questions about time that drive some to the brink,
To the brink of misery where they find comfort in drink.
Why do some always feel dressed in their winter clothes,
Expecting more disaster that only the devil could propose,
Waiting upon the North Wind as their toes gently freeze,
Only to find that it brushes their face as a gentle breeze.
Will there be another villain lurking around the next corner,
To hold me for ransom like some out-of-town foreigner?
Will there be another disaster to overtake me on life’s highway,
Picking me up, then throwing me down, as I mumble again why?
Before I sleep I take one last look at my winter clothes,
Laid out for the morning in the room’s nighttime shadows.
I do love this piece of the street blue mood, truly. It reminds me one old tradition which tells that if you were born in the year of monkey, for example, according to the Oriental Zodiac, this year you have to wear your clothing coloured in one of the five tints accordingly. Let me say, this year of the red monkey all year long you should be dressed in red, from your shoes to your hat to protect yourself from the evil. . . Good luck then! ;(( Cheers, alex
Life can be lonely if you allow it. Go grocery shopping on a Friday night. Singles are grocery shopping on Friday nights. Hang out at your local bookstore or library. Go walking in a park where there are people..............'just trying to help!! God bless!!
A heartfelt piece of poetical writing, John. This one is much sadder than most of your writings, and I welcomed it into my heart, because as you noted, my poem today has an ache for better times. Good indepth writing.
This is a book of free verse poetry that addresses the seven main tests in life and offers some sensible solutions to passing those tests with minimal discomfort.
“The woman or man who is a poet, or fiction writer, or playwright, or all of these, is engaged constantly in a jazz ballet of vocabularies, passions, genders, histories, perspectives, death, love, and life. The music of revelation announces itself to
they never give us a warning. Your winter clothes

Metaphorically speaking, this one drove home your point about how sad life can be for some.
