Dreamlike
By John Herlihy

Falling snowflakes
On the bay,
Falling leaves
Descend as they may,
Falling rain
Blessings convey,
Falling light
Shades of grey.

Peacock’s tail
In array,
Butterfly wings
With a word to say,
Two footprints
Make their way,
Two fingerprints
Unique clay.

Two brothers
One shy, one brave,
Two sisters
In their own way behave,
Rob freedom
To make a slave,
Unbridled desires
Make us crave.

Two places of worship
Silence in the nave.
Drops of water
Make a single wave.
Multiple wrongs
From a single knave.
Every mountain
Conceals a cave.

No two things
Are alike.
Ships passing in moonlight,
Dreamlike.

I like everything about your poem--its structure, its simplicity, its pure message. This is masterful craftsmanship.

You have given me many things to consider with the gold that flowed from your pen on this one! Fantastic stuff!! I can visualize the dreamy look of the ships passing 'neath the moonlight. True, no two things are alike. True, no two things are alike but then again opposites attract.

Love ya!

The rhythm and the word images are undeniably beautiful and rewarding. This is one of your best efforts. But somehow, right at the end I keep thinking of that famous phrase, "like two ships passing in the night."

the fairy tales from childhood presented so lovely thru this piece that none of the readers can realize whether they are here or there, in the remote past of the future. . . Cheers, alex

I enjoyed the journey of this piece...which ultimately led us to the philosophy of the last few lines...
Dreamlike...

Your last stanza sums everything up, John, but all the stanza's before it was like a guided tour to make the reader (moi) prepared for, and to understand completely, the last stanza. An old adage .. . "No two things / Are alike." Old adage maybe, but you gave it extra, dreamlike, persona.
