We speak of Heaven as a place that truly exists,
Even if its mystery confounds us and still persists.
Some people live their lives in blissful ignorance;
They go about their business in sheer persistence,
With little care to the eternal hope Heaven bestows,
Giving them rights and privileges they freely chose,
To do as they please in their dealings with others,
To abandon the myths of their fathers and mothers.
At the end of their road lies nothing beyond the bend,
They prefer on their own the struggles of life to fend.
We speak of Heaven that one day will truly arrive,
Even if its true whereabouts lives in the mind to survive.
Is Heaven a blue field of illusion nestled within the sky?
Does it roam expectantly in the dark universe of our eye?
The heavens at sunset certainly proclaim a divine realm,
Twilight reluctant to depart being enough to overwhelm.
The night sky with its crown of stars suggests eternal bliss,
To stroll along the Milky Way as something not to miss.
Refuge for the soul’s wisdom and the hearth to God’s truth,
Where would we be without Heaven in our hearts forsooth?
An eternal question of the human mind seeking to be whole,
An eternal answer found in the depths of the human soul.
If a world can be found in an atom and eternity in the moment,
Who are we to question Heaven when we should seek atonement.
Perhaps all we need to do is gaze at the mystery of the flower,
To discover on our own the true location of the heavenly bower.
A single step on the road of life contains the way to infinity,
Multiple steps will bring us into the presence of the Divinity.
Light descending into darkness with the clashing of swords,
If Heaven doesn’t exist, there is no need for further words.
if Heaven doesn't exist men should create it. That's the mission of the humans at large within the triad of Heaven, Earth and Man. Yes, to talk about this is necessary but talk and do it is must. There are so many people who do their daily duties in silence because they cannot express what they feel as deep as they feel it. Again, when the Golden Week starts, the Japanese go to see the cherry blossom opening, but the boom is when the flowers fall down at the end of the week. Why? To be aware of Heaven that is always somewhere above. This piece is in your way, John, to embrace the unembraceable, to express the inexpressible. Well done. Cheers, alex
YES! WE DRAW CLOSER WITH EVERY STEP FOR IT DOES EXIST, JOHN. AND I DO BELIEVE THAT IN OUR HEART OF HEARTS EACH AND EVERYONE KNOWS THIS TO BE TRUE. WE CAN HARDLY IMAGINE THE SPLENDOR OF SUCH A REALM, FOR ITS NOT A PLACE WHERE JUST THE SOUL'S EYES WILL APPRECIATE ITS MAGNIFICENSE BUT A PLACE OF 'TOTAL' SPIRITUAL FULFILLMENT AND PEACE...SUCH AS WE'VE NEVER KNOWN AND CAN ONLY CONTEMPLATE BY FAITH! I 'KNOW' HEAVEN EXISTS BECAUSE GOD SAID IT(IS 64:4,PS 31:19,JH 14:2,1 CORN 2:9,REV 21&22)AND, FOR ME, THAT'S THAT! BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN AND ENJOYED, THANK YOU. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
To me, the concept of "Heaven" is quite personal and to be interpreted by each unique individual. Some of us create our own "heavens" and "hells" right here on Earth in this life. Thank you for sharing this thought-provoking poem, John. Love and peace,
As everyone knows, this place we live can be heavenly beautiful or hellishly cruel. Our ancestors were much closer to the earth and subsistence that we are. Death haunted them every day of their lives. Knowing that they were going to die, they invented the place they wanted to go after this life that wouldn't have all the uncertainty and pain. They picked the best in this world and called it heaven. Just like those of us who are healthy and wealthy enough to retire early and enjoy the earthly retirement (heaven) of our desire.
Down through history there has always been a divine place that, if one lives a good life or is a good warrior, etc. that ones soul ends up at. Valhalla, heaven, paradise......many more names for it have always existed even before the Bible was written. My mother leaned towards her Finnish "pagan" beliefs while my father was a staunch Christian. Having grown up forming my own, I choose to believe that a soul is infinite and it's a good ride if we strive for that. Anyhow, I really enjoyed this poem as it is thought provokingly written. Thanks for getting my wheels going on this lovely thought, John!!
David Hightower’s lyrically expansive meditation on the whims of fate and the unpredictability of the human condition fill the pages of THE HANGING MAN DREAMS with thrilling music and mesmerizing imagery. Hightower’s richly infused voice echoes the e
