If time could speak, what would it say?
It must have mysteries to reveal without undue delay.
Excuse me, monsignor, do you have time to spare?
Time looked straight at me with a withering glare.
It’s not as if time has a mouth with which to speak;
I might as well have asked time to speak in Greek.
Time is not about to start pontificating with words;
The weeks, months, years are what it amply affords.
Would it be childish of me to ask when did time begin?
Time looked at me and frowned as if I committed a sin.
Time stood in all its grandeur as though asking for a fee;
Time immemorial floats thru the universe as waves in a sea.
Since the universe claims to be infinite and boasts of no shore,
Time will only disappear when it passes through eternity’s door.
Time’s origin is irrelevant, it is enough to know that time exists,
Measured in the ticking of a clock whose sound always persists.
What does time do but the human souls on earth lay bare;
Each one with an allotted time they squander if they dare.
Time enjoys a stately presence that it hasn’t fully earned;
One reprimand from eternity and time will be fully spurned.
Time lingers around like a hired hand waiting for its pay;
Silence is its trademark; it never has anything special to say.
With persistence, time marches to the beat of a solitary drum,
In equal measure, the heat beats in unison with time’s steady thrum.
Still the question remains without seeming to bray:
If time could speak to us in person, what would it say?
“If you succeed in lifting the veil that separates April from May,
Then abracadabra, hocus pocus, alakazam, puff, I will go away.”
In your last line, you say it all. In time, we all evaporate. There is so little time left for us, that we perhaps should not spend too much time worrying about it, they get down to the business of living, like writing a poem every day at the same time.
As a human, I'm grateful that I can experience the past the stories of others or words written back then, and experience the future through ideas expressed by my own imagination or those of others. If we imagine it, in time, it may come to pass.
Very good thought, provoking write John. I think about the subject a lot but never get any closer to understanding it. But if time could be asked a question, I would ask it " where the heck were you before it all began?"

I have a feeling if Time could speak, it would say, at least to me, "You rode with the wind." Then again Time might just use its ability to speak to spend hours upon hours berating me . . .
