Looks like I will be heading back to the Middle East and travelling for the coming days, so this will be my last poem (and reviews) until I am once again settled and back into my routine sometime next week.

A Mirage
By John Herlihy

I see in the distance a shimmering mirage,
Shining with light like a budding corsage,
Full of mystery, like a finger beckoning.
Come near, what disappears but its unique collage,
Leaving you alone with your own reckoning.

I see in my mind a shimmering mirage,
With no trace of it on my comely visage.
I keep my own secret well within scope;
No one will know how it gives me hope,
Mine alone to treasure, it helps me to cope.

I feel in my heart a shimmering mirage,
Well protected in a cave against sabotage.
Emotions have their day with highs and lows;
My mirage is wrapped tightly and tied with bows.
Where does it come from? Nobody knows.

Embedded within my soul lies a shimmering mirage;
It informs my being with its enlightening montage.
Meaning and purpose, happiness, fulfillment and hope;
I cling to this illusion by the threads of a divine rope.
Will I give it up? You ask. The answer: never, nada, nope.

NO IT'S NOT A MIRAGE OR ILLUSION, JOHN. IT'S WITHIN YOU AND IT'S REAL. WE ACCEPT OUR DESTINIES AND WE DELVE IN OUR ABILITY TO DO SO. YOUR WORK IS AMONG THE MOST FULFILLING I'VE EVER READ...IT SPEAKS OF THE HEIGHTS AND DEPTHS OF A MAN UNASHAMED TO BARE HIS SOUL AND YET STILL CLING TO THE UNFORESEEN THINGS TO COME. I KNOW NOT WHAT YOU PERHAPS LEAVE BEHIND, I ONLY KNOW THAT GOD IS WITH YOU AND HE WILL PROVIDE EVERYTHING THAT YOU NEED. THIS IS NOT A MIRAGE AT ALL, FOR HIS PRESENCE IS REAL AND TANGIBLE. THANKS FOR SHARING. I AWAIT YOUR NEXT POSTING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

I think you are writing about your lust for travel, always finding there's some distant mirage I had that needs to be revealed.

Have a good journey and don't fly any Emirates airplanes with no landing gear. ;-)

delusions within delusions can only lead to other delusions, which lie further away from truth, if we hold fast to them deliberately. . . as is well-known, every truth has its opposite side; however, the one-sidedness is not the proper choice, I guess. Cheers, alex

"I cling to this illusion by the threads of a divine rope."

Ah, John we all are into an illusion of one sort or another.

Mine is reincarnation!

Slightly impish, a tweeking of both human and divine noses - and it has a touch of defiance. I like it.
