I have lived in hundreds of places;
I have travelled through thousands of spaces.
I have encountered in person a million faces;
I have been put through my own paces.
Never wanting to settle myself down,
I would get bored staying in a little town.
I have crossed seas seeking adventure;
I have rafted thru river canyons escaping indenture.
I have loved no one and everyone;
I am responsible for everyone and no one.
Everything I do expresses the mystery of desire;
Wishing to fully fulfill myself, feeling on fire.
My life is breathless, strung into the gut of a bow;
My love is restless, never to stay put and lay low.
I never know completely who I am;
Some days I feel like a dog, others like the king of Siam.
One day, I play myself moodily as a base fiddle;
Another day, my silence is as enigmatic as a riddle.
In fact, there isn’t a day that I don’t imagine;
I can tailor my needs so as the changing world to fathom.
The lyricism of the flute, the thunder of drums;
The lonely call of the peacock, the resonance of hums.
The cry of the violin, the tinkling of the cymbal;
The buzzing of the bee, the luxury of feeling nimble.
Every day is an adventure that speaks of restless love
Soaring from tree top to tree top like a precious dove.

While I'm not sure your poem expresses love, it certainly expresses freedom and adventure. You are getting much better at rhyming although I'm finding some confusing connections like how "rafting" escapes "indenture."??
I can feel the gypsy soul in you as I read this. "Every day is an adventure that speaks of restless love"......most definitely! What an adventurous read! This, in my opinion, ranks high in your "top ten"!!
the subject of this piece reminds me the King of Monkey by the name of Sun Wu Kong, the main hero of all Chinese kids, and not only of them. Light and bright this poem is to be enjoyed by all its readers. Cheers, alex

This is/was my own life, although you ventured into far more places did I. My roaming took place within the borders of the United States. Still, your words, the ones I have quoted, as indeed the rest of your poem, resonates within my own self. Best poem I have ever read of yours, John.
I'm sure your theme of restlessness resonates with many. I call mine a midlife renaissance which revived my dormant flair for writing while remaining rooted in my native state, content to roam the beaches.
