One Last Hope
By John Herlihy

In the recesses of my mind lies the specter of hope,
An unassuming ghost with the tenacity of a rope.
It holds itself in reserve with a patience that is beautiful;
A mirage hovering in the distance that is equally bountiful.
Our emotions run riot leaving us fluttering beyond repair;
We ride the crest of sentiments from ecstasy to despair.
Hope can seem a strange curiosity arrived from an alien shore;
It doesn’t seem to fit with the petitions that our hearts implore.
But when everything is lost and there is no fire left to burn,
Hope abides eternal and makes possible our life to balance return.
There is always one last hope to bring us back from the brink;
One last miracle we may need. to awaken our good will to think.
Love belongs to God as an emotion that we learn through trust;
But hope is the dream of the waking man before turning to dust.

Without hope we have nothing. Mood swings? Eh, they come and they go. Look straight into the storm and laugh. Laugh loudly!!! Nobody gets out of this rodeo alive. I enjoyed this poem immensely!!!

Love ya!

Your poem speaks of great swings in emotion and turmoil. But, there is always hope and return to normalcy, if not guaranteed, at least, wished for.

I don't see my life that way. For I have not felt great swings of emotion in spite of everything that I have been through. Still I can empathize, I think, with that point of view.

Hope with one hand and work tirelessly with the other in order to cause hope to bear fruition.

as I've said earlier, if you could close (and you are good at it) you could open and all. A rock steady piece. Cheers, alex

Hope goes hand-in-hand with optimism. Sometimes it is our only recourse. An eloquent poem on the subject.
