Desire reaches out from us with extended hands;
Remembrance seals life’s encounters with its indelible brands.
Then places the memories within sacred lands;
While desire only slips thru our fingers like flowing sands.
Longing is but an emotion not always clearly identified;
Memory is more a sacred cave with life images sanctified.
Desire is a secretive impulse you wish no one to see;
Remembrance an act of devotion that reflects what you be.
Desire agitates the mind at life’s challenging altars;
Remembrance soothes the heart like calming waters.
Desire pleads for satisfaction of its endless longing;
Remembrance recounts the story of our simple belonging.
Desires mount within us until we know them by heart;
Memories find place in the privacy of our inner hearth.
Desire stirs the heart flames of sympathy like inviting hosts;
Remembrance haunts hearth flames of memory like furtive ghosts.
Desire and remembrance seem at first in opposition with each other;
eventually, they stride hand in hand together, like faithful brothers.
Desire and remembrance come together as one in mutual embrace;
Filling in the empty cracks of the soul so that nothing goes to waste.
An expressive way to define man, avoiding the cliche symbols and verbiage that belittles the thinking you and others possess. To think is a gift, most cast aside like a an old pair of shoes. Sad.
You touched on some of life's most intimate thoughts. Desire, especially, is often hidden or suppressed for fear of some kind of retaliation. Remembrance can be fond or can be painful.
However, unlike the others, I feel that you were strongly overreaching in a few of the verses trying to come up with compare/contrast between desire and remembrance. I think it's okay to make it shorter and not try for the moon with every poem. I've found there just sometimes aren't enough words to describe what I'm trying to convey. So I cut it short and don't overreach.
'when the music's over turn out the lights'; when the work is done, retire to be in line with the way of Heaven. To link these two notions is not difficult because, as is said here, they are united by human nature. People never forget of their deeds; they always desire to keep them in quantities: piles of albums, wishing to forget of the present pain and age. Cheers, alex
Love ya!
