I have travelled in my time,
To Vienna, Paris and Berlin.
I have roamed the rolling foothills,
Outside the dreamy city of Turin.
The city famous for the ancient shroud,
Suggesting the face of Christ on linen.
A ghost-like presence across the centuries,
A historic mirror gleaming amid earth’s din.
I have found myself confused and lost,
Over the years, but never felt chagrin.
The years have passed by in seconds,
Vanishing quicker than the drop of a pin.
As I aged, an inner music began to emerge,
Taking on the soulful strings of the violin.
Every step of the journey a pluck of the string,
Motivating the heart and soul under my skin.
Occasional moods might cross my path,
Enough to throw my mind into a tail spin.
The outer journey has now been superseded.
The journey I now pursue can be found within.
Such a traveler. You have visited places and seen wonderful things that most people only read about. Thank you for sharing your journeys. Ah! Yes, the journey we take within is the only one we can take and understand to our better good. Lovely!!
You have journeyed much further than others, across mighty cities, wild terrain and religions that others dare not approach. And now, with pen in hand, you are retracing those journeys and taking that final trip through your memories on these pages. Bravo.
I understand this poem completely, John, because I am where you are now. I am spending my last days on a journey from within. It is a very good place to be. I like it. I appreciate this offering so much.
it's nice to hearing of those journeys and music accompanied your realization, John. it is also good to know from here that the melodies (moods) of our hearts are performed by the skin. For this reason, the ancients in the antique east never used to shake hands ;)) Cheers, alex
