The castle in late Fall,
The seasons never stall.
The moat surrounds all,
Night’s blanket shall crawl.
Beams of moonlight enthrall,
Feathered beds beyond castle wall
To bear the brunt of cannon ball.
Skittish horses neigh in their stall,
Night ghosts hold them in thrall,
Although they see nothing at all.
Suddenly snows from Heaven fall,
Bringing peace to nearby landfall,
Deep within the mountains of Nepal,
Happiness at last for one and all,
Even the wolves no longer howl.
Castles indeed can be enthralling sights, befitting a poem like this. I often wonder if lords had not been so rich and so bellicose, if all of those castles in Europe would have been built to be so strong and so majestic in their isolation. I think that putting a castle in Nepal is a bit of a stretch.
