The mystery of unknown places
Intrigue us with their inviting faces.
Life’s road could lead us nowhere;
Life’s desire may trap us anywhere;
Life’s end will take us somewhere.
First there is nowhere,
As mysterious as the night,
As forthcoming as the day,
As secret as the whispered lie,
As intimate as the blue of the sky.
Then there is anywhere,
As random as flames licking cold stones,
As final as the crackling of old bones,
As promising as the distant horizon,
As predatory as the African lion.
Finally there is somewhere,
As distant as a mountain’s peak,
As close as the grass at my feet,
As enticing as that winking star,
As near as that door now ajar.
For some that road leads anywhere;
For others that road leads nowhere;
For me that road leads somewhere;
For the curious anywhere is somewhere;
For the lonely somewhere is nowhere.
Nowhere and anywhere harbor potential;
Nowhere and somewhere are quintessential.
The road to nowhere lies paved for the meek;
The road to anywhere is saved for the weak;
The road to somewhere is what I truly seek.
TO REALLY 'SEE' WE MUST CLOSE OUR EYES...TO REALLY 'SEEK' WE MUST CEASE TO WONDER...TO REALLY 'FIND' WE MUST LET GO. THANKS FOR SHARING, JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
I've always been drawn to unknown places. So often those on the well trodden tourist routes that we are told we 'must see' disappoint, but the unknown places, the ruin of a derelict barn, the small, nameless stream tumbling over rocks, the hidden valley (a combe or cwm in old English) are full of enchantment. A great poem, I hope it will inspire many people to take 'the road less travelled' and find their own enchanted places.
You have paved this road with many paths of fortune. One man's somewhere leads another nowhere. A beautifully constructed description of how our perception determines our outcomes far more than the simple outcomes, themselves.
So many roads to travel.
So many hats to wear,
Your poem go my mind moving,
so I thank you for the share.
One of the things I like to do is go down a road I've never been on before, and see where it leads to. At least on roads, you're never actually lost, just temporarily misplaced. keep on going, and you're bound to end up somewhere you know.
There are so many roads and so many great possibilities. Still we choose to travel only a few. The ones that call to our hearts. All is as it should be John. Have a nice day xo
