What’s all this fuss I hear about false humility,
Proclaiming an untrue lack of one’s true ability.
I’ve seen people bow heads and pretend to frown,
Resembling the arch antics of an insincere clown.
Some people open their palm and tap their heart,
Mumbling trite platitudes that stop and then start.
Others shake their head and raise hands in protest,
Awash in compliments, yet they appear distressed.
I shout honest insults and hit them with my shoe;
Somebody needs to needle them and whisper boo.
Why then do many people cringe at honest pride,
Feats accomplished and then taken in their stride.
What’s wrong with a sense of happiness that thrills,
Who wants to feel regret as when milk suddenly spills.
Some people can’t help it and just beam with pleasure;
Inner joy floods their heart as they hug their treasure.
This is what I have accomplished, my pearl, my plume,
Why deny myself the truth and a false attitude assume.
Give me an honest pride over a false humility any day;
It may speak volumes without a dishonest word to say.
NO PERSON CAN CALL HIMSELF HUMBLE. FOR TO DO SO IS IN ITSELF, PRIDEFUL. FOR IF THE HUMILITY IS FALSE...IT'S ROTTEN AND RANK AND GOD HIMSELF WILL CAUSE IT TO FALL. BUT IF ONE GIVES THE APPLAUSE, THE GLORY...THEY COULD RECEIVE TO GOD, REALIZING THAT ALL THEY ARE...IS IN GOD, THEN TO BE PROUD OF WHO ONE IS, THROUGH HIM...IS GOOD. THANKS FOR SHARING. Why am I thinking of a very prideful person that often pretends humility in view of everyone on television every day?
Like you, I'm proud of my accomplishments and share them with others often. But I remember what it's like be humble when it comes to dealing with people unable to rise above their circumstances and try to treat them with respect. But I see no need to bow before the king or any person of societal stature and generally approach them one-on-one without any false humility. After all, we both put our pants on the same way in the morning--one leg at a time.
I have been accused of being arrogant. But I believe that is because some people feel threatened by others' accomplishment and are jealous. Others confide in me because I accept them for who they are without judgment.
