The wind whispered of time and the river;
Up against time, the river is but a sliver.
Time yawns widely as the earth turns;
The hours shrivel up as the sun burns.
An enticing future do sweet dreams make;
A hopeless future do these dreams forsake.
Life rushes forward as the eternal giver,
Frothing and gushing a tumultuous river.
Of course, mysteries abound to give pause;
Curiosity and interest become first cause.
Alas, time itself is a cold and heartless river,
As orphaned and exiled, we can only shiver.
Time will finally deliver us back to eternity,
As the river sets us free into the open sea.
"We can never step in the same river twice." But time does not flow downhill like a river, it flows forward, but never back. Time travel is an interesting fictional exercise that I doubt will ever take place because it is really true that, "We can never go home [to the same one] again."
